Gilbert Adjetey Lomofio is a seasoned Chartered Accountant and Tax Consultant whose professional journey spans over 22 years, marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence, strategic leadership, and knowledge transfer. Throughout his career, Gilbert has built a reputation for delivering results, fostering high-performing teams, and navigating complex financial landscapes with a resilient, forward-thinking approach.
Currently serving as the Managing Partner at John Kay & Co, a prominent firm of Chartered Accountants, Gilbert oversees the firm’s operations, spearheads client acquisition efforts, and ensures adherence to international standards, including the International Standards on Quality Management (ISQM 1 & 2), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and International Standards on Auditing (ISA). His leadership has been instrumental in setting and enforcing firm-wide policies, driving strategic hiring decisions, and championing revenue growth through data-driven analysis. Prior to this role, Gilbert served as the firm’s Tax Partner, where he led tax planning and compliance engagements, interfaced with the Ghana Revenue Authority, and optimized clients’ tax positions. Earlier in his tenure, as Audit & Tax Manager, he oversaw audit teams, managed IFRS-compliant financial reporting, and led key advisory projects, including mergers and acquisitions due diligence and fraud investigations.
A distinctive feature of Gilbert’s professional ethos is his passion for knowledge transfer. As the lead trainer at John Kay & Co, he has consistently designed and delivered impactful training for clients and industry professionals. His training portfolio includes strategic planning and forensic audit execution for the Bank of Africa, retirement and financial management advisory for legal professionals at Kuenyehia & Associates, and financial management education for Ghana’s public sector under the GIFMIS initiative. His influence extends beyond formal training sessions, as he remains actively involved in coaching and mentoring staff at all levels.
Before joining John Kay & Co, Gilbert began his career at KPMG Ghana as an Audit Senior Associate, where he led audit field teams, assessed internal control systems, and contributed to the firm’s professional development initiatives. This early exposure to international audit standards and client engagement helped shape his analytical acumen and leadership style.
Academically, Gilbert is equally accomplished. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK. In 2024, he became a Doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Chartered Business Analysts and Consultants, where his research focuses on youth employment in Ghana’s service industry, with particular attention to the banking sector. His academic foundation includes an MBA in Finance from the University of Ghana, where he explored collective investment schemes, and a BSc in Accounting from the same institution, with a dissertation centered on mergers and acquisitions at Guinness Ghana Breweries.
Gilbert’s technical competencies are vast, ranging from financial analysis, internal controls, and payroll systems to audit software tools like Caseware, Draftworx, and IDEA. He has also cultivated multilingual capabilities, with proficiency in English, intermediate working knowledge of French, and a basic command of Spanish—attributes that enhance his communication across diverse professional contexts.
His professional affiliations include active memberships in the Accountancy Practice Society of Ghana, the Ga North District Society of ICA Ghana, the Tax Practice Society of Ghana, the Ghana–South Africa Business Chamber, and the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International. These associations reflect both his commitment to professional development and his engagement in broader business and faith-based communities.
Gilbert’s leadership philosophy is grounded in perseverance and diligence, as echoed in his favorite quote by Longfellow: “The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” This belief in sustained effort is evident in his approach to management, mentorship, and client service.
What truly sets Gilbert apart is the intersection of technical excellence, advisory depth, and people-centered leadership. His proven ability to guide organizations through compliance, growth, and transformation is complemented by his unwavering dedication to mentorship and continuous learning. Through his work, he not only shapes financial outcomes but also cultivates the next generation of finance professionals in Ghana and beyond.
